Boux Avenue

We at Twinkle HQ are super excited at the launch of new lingerie brand Boux Avenue; which will be available from Spring this year.
The style is very much vintage pin-up and ooses sophistication. What's best about it though is that they cater for all sizes! Prices range from £10 (non-underwired) and £16 (underwired) to £32 for bras; and £5 to £18 for briefs.
They will be available online, and at stores that will be opening soon in locations such as the Trafford Centre in Manchester. Keep at eye on www.bouxavenue.com.

Blink With Blinc

Our Editor Laura Pearson has been getting to grips this week with Blinc's range of products from www.blincuk.co.uk, and testing them out just for you...
"Blinc's mascara is marketed as forming tubes around your lashes rather than painting them like regular mascaras. There's actually no visual difference in its application from any other mascara but it definitely does what it says on the tin with regards to being water and smudge proof. It actually has the best staying power out of any other mascara I have ever tried; and the wand does a brilliant job in separating your lashes". £18.50
"I'm in love with Blinc's eyebrow mousse. I tried it in Dark Brunette, and it does a fabulous job of filling in your brows neatly and easily with a perfect natural colour. It's also got an anti-aging treatment in it to moisturise your skin". £18.50
"I find liquid eyeliner so difficult to apply. It always goes on in a dotty line, or it runs into the creases on my eyelids and looks more like eyeshadow! I found Blinc's liquid eyeliner so easy to put on. It is thick and provides a strong colour. It doesn't run, and it's tiny brush helps it to glide on smoothly. It's waterproof and smudge proof too!". £18.50

Exclusive Quick Fire Interview: Ben de Lisi

International fashion designer Ben de Lisi has given an exclusive quick fire interview to Twinkle Magazine on everything from his inspirations to his predictions for the royal wedding...
Image: Debenhams
Which designers were your inspiration when entering fashion?
Halston, and Geoffrey Beene.

Tell us about your involvement with the high street?
Designing Principle By Ben de Lisi as well as evening, home, accessories etc enables me to reach a wider consumer base; so now everyone can have a bit of the brand. I think all of the designers involved with the high street use their individual style and creativity with their high street collections.

By having a line in the high street, it allows women with larger dress sizes to wear your designs. Do you think that standard high-end designer collections should open their doors more to plus-sizes instead of only producing clothes in smaller sizes?
Yes! Being sizest is not good business sense as women come in all shapes and sizes.

Who is the ideal woman that you would like to design a dress for?
Both Julianne Moore and Kristin Scott-Thomas- both incredibly stylish and chic.
What do you think royal bride Katherine Middleton will wear on her big day?
I think she will go classic with a modern twist. Sleeves, a fuller skirt and train; but not as over the top as Diana's.
What are you doing at the moment?
Working on Principles by Ben de Lisi takes a lot of my time as it's a very big brand and is in over 170 stores. I still have evening wear, couture, and am currently doing the new NHS hospital gown. I also have my interior design work, a lot of new TV projects; and i'm really enjoying doing the Ben de Lisi homeware range.

What do you do in your spare time?
Painting, collection ceramics, looking after my 3 little French Bulldogs, and travelling whenever I can get away.

Exclusive Interview: People's Revolution's Emily Bungert

Emily Bungert; partner at People's Revolution with fashion PR goddess Kelly Cutrone; tells Twinkle Magazine about her work in fashion, and her own style and inspirations. She can be seen in Bravo's hit show 'Kell On Earth'.

How would you describe your own style? Who are your favourite designers?
My personal style is sort of bohemian and revolves a lot around comfort. In the winter I usually wear skinny jeans or leggings with sweaters or over-size tees, and in the summer I wear sun-dresses or shorts with loose-fitting burn-out tanks. I wear a lot of Mara Hoffman (www.marahoffman.com) - especially her knits, coats, dresses and swimsuits. She is the ultimate designer for a city-dwelling girl with a hippie spirit, like myself. I am currently obsessed with RESIN denim- they make the best comfy skinny jeans (I have been wearing my black pair nearly every day this winter). Some of my favorite designers/brands also include rag & bone, Nicholas K, Maison Martin Margiela, Matthew Williamson, Alber Elbaz for Lanvin and Marc Jacobs. I wear a lot of Louis Vuitton shoes and my favorite winter boots are by Vintage Shoe Company (www.vintageshoecompany.com). I also love going to thrift stores and vintage clothes shopping, especially in obscure locations.

Tell me about your job at People's Revolution, and how you started your career in fashion PR?
I am a Partner at People's Revolution and I manage several accounts for the agency as well as handle a lot of the fashion show and event production/PR. As a child, I was obsessed with fashion, art and music and I always knew I wanted to work in the fashion industry. I started working as a young teenager in high school, selling clothes at department stores and hosting at restaurants before moving to NYC from Minneapolis when I was 19 to pursue a career in fashion. Not long after, I landed a job working as a PR Assistant for Vivienne Westwood, then spent almost 2 years at Betsey Johnson as a PR Coordinator before moving on to agencies. I've been at People's Revolution for almost 5 years now and have worked on more than 50 fashion shows with this agency alone - in NYC, London, Los Angeles, Miami and more. Throughout my career, I've also traveled to exciting places like Australia, Mexico City, Sao Paulo Brazil, Paris, Milan and more for fashion weeks and trade-shows. I love my job!

What are the key trends and looks that you have been seeing for Spring/Summer in New York?

Some trends coming out for Spring will include Ethnic prints, Military influence and Animal prints. A lot of people have been wearing Doc Martens/combat boots lately, at least that is the current trend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I think maxi-dresses will continue to be popular this summer as well.

It's fashion week in New York at the moment, so tell me what you are up to, and what the future holds for People's Revolution?
We are just wrapping up fashion week at People's Revolution and the Jeremy Scott show will be our last of the week. I keyed 5 shows for the Fall 2011 season, including Mara Hoffman, Nicholas K, What Goes Around Comes Around, Toni Francesc and Sergio Davila. I am also working on an opening for Dorian Grey Gallery for an exhibit entitled "Stephen Sprouse Drawings: Jet Boy" as well as producing a look book shoot for a brand new fashion label called Emerson. We are working on the launch of a great new men's shoe line called Rockadelic (www.rockadelic.com) and will be going down to SXSW Music Festival with them in March to participate in an event with BMF Media, which will be great fun. We are also launching a great new line of handbags and jackets for a line called The Sway (www.theswaynyc.com), which is super cool and made from all recycled leathers.

You sound very busy! What do you do in your spare time? Do you have any hobbies outside of the world of fashion?

I read a lot of books and love to watch TV & movies. I have a ton of favorite TV shows and I often watch the Animal Planet channel, National Geographic, Travel Channel etc. - I love nature shows. I also really like fantasy films (such Lord of the Rings) and books (such as The Mists of Avalon) etc. My favorite movie is The Godfather (1 & 2). I love trilogies and I am sort of a nerd at heart. For books, I'll read almost anything but I am not into cheesy fashion-related books at all. I tend to veer toward more serious subjects and dramas overall.

I don't get a ton of spare time with the hours that I work, so I absolutely love to enjoy my weekends off! When the weather is nice, I ride my bike around Greenpoint & Williamsburg Brooklyn and go for picnics in the park. I love to host dinner-parties at my place and go out dancing (when I'm not too tired). I travel to Minneapolis to visit my family every chance I get, so that is where I spend most holiday weekends. Whenever I get a chance, I try to take quick trips to Jamaica or Puerto Rico to hit the beach and relax.

Finally, the fashion size debate.  Do you think that
standard high-end designer collections should open their doors more to plus-sizes instead of only producing clothes in smaller sizes?

I do think it would be good for designer collections to offer more size options. For young designers though, it might simply be a cost issue to grade and produce a large range of sizes. I do also think that a lot of designers cut really small and the worst thing is when you put on something in your correct size and it doesn't fit.

New Season Shoes: Clarks

When us girls think of Clarks, we hear the word 'sensible', and see images of black patent t-bar school shoes. The last thing we equate the brand with is fashion. Clarks, in recent years however, has had a major overhaul and produces a gorgeous line of shoes and handbags that could rival any fashion house; whilst still maintaining the comfort factor and affordable prices.
Clarks' new season shoes and bags for Spring/Summer are available online now at www.clarks.co.uk. Here is an idea of what is on offer; from their Spring/Summer 2011 press day.

Must See: Chalet Girl

Chalet Girl is a fantastically funny and sweet British romantic comedy, reminiscent of the likes of Bridget Jones' Diary.
It stars relative newcomer Felicity Jones in the title role of Kim, a London burger-flipper turned Austrian chalet girl whose job it is to cater to the every whim of the property's rich owners. She is there to make money; but amongst her elite employers and 'posh' ski-enthusiast fellow chalet girls, she feels out of her depth.
However, the characters soon learn they have more in common that they first thought, and Kim starts to fit right in and develops a real talent for snowboarding. Friends are made, and loves are formed in this delightful feel-good film.
Gossip Girl fans will delight in watching heartthrob Ed Westwick in the role of Jonny, whose father (Bill Nighy) owns the chalet. Kim's fellow chalet girl (and initial rival) Georgie is played by St.Trinian's actress Tamsin Egerton. All of the cast are excellent; but lead Felicity Jone's humour, and Bill Nighy's subtle down-to-earth performance really stand out.
This film is a must-see. Stay to the end for a treat over the end credits.

If Chalet Girl leaves you desperate to take the the slopes, www.wahanda.com has deals on ski and snowboarding lessons all over the UK. Take it up, and see if you can bag yourself your very own Ed Westwick.

Red: Red Carpet Dresses

Red has been a popular choice of colour for red carpet dresses, now that awards season has begun.

Mad Men actresses Christina Hendricks and January Jones looked stunning in their Romona Keveza and daring Versace gowns at the Golden Globes in Los Angeles.
Julianna Marguiles also wore red, courtesy of YSL, at the SAG Awards.
The trend continued with Mila Kunis and Tina Fey amongst others, who dazzled in their Alexander McQueen and Oscar De La Renta dresses. With the Academy Awards and the BAFTAs coming up this month, lets see if this passion for red continues.
